Solid research on DHA in a variety of areas including ADHD and cognitive
development is the basis for the new o3mega+ think™. With concentrated DHA in
a softgel that is approximately 1/2 the size of the others in the o3mega line,
o3mega+ think™ is a great option for children as well as for adults who find
larger capsules difficult to swallow.
DHA has many more research-proven benefits beyond ADHD including:
- Maternal supplementation of DHA during pregnancy and lactation has been
associated with higher I.Q.s in children at 1 year and again at a 4-year
follow-up.
- Higher maternal DHA blood levels are associated with the development of
proper attention in infants and toddlers.
- DHA supplementation may help prevent Post Partum Depression (PPD) (2 or
more serving of fish appears to be protective against PPD, but concerns over
toxins in fish make pregnant women reluctant to include fish in their diet).
- Higher Omega-3 intake in middle age is associated with higher overall
cognitive performance – function and speed
- DHA levels and Omega-3 intakes are lower in those with Alzheimer’s and
dementia.
The research on DHA has grown rapidly within the areas of brain structure,
intelligence and maintenance of cognitive function throughout life, however, DHA
is perhaps best known for brain development and function, particularly in
infancy and childhood. However, DHA is not the entire story. When it comes to
brain function and cognition, attention and the prevention of hyperactivity,
some small levels of EPA are required. Published studies on pure DHA have shown
no effect over placebo in ADHD. In contrast, studies which used predominately
DHA and some EPA had successful outcomes. This is why we left in 100mg of EPA
per softgel of o3mega+ think™ and why it will be more effective for ADHD than
pure DHA formulas.
