PABA 300mg
Although not a B vitamin, PABA (Para-aminobenzoic acid) is
closely associated with the vitamin B complex.
PABA plays an important role in determining skin health, hair pigmentation, and
intestinal health. However, it may not turn graying hair back to its natural
colour, unless the reason is a PABA deficiency. PABA acts as a sunscreen and is
incorporated into some sunscreen ointments.
PABA is manufactured by friendly bacteria in the intestines. It plays a role in
several functions including:
* functions as a membrane stabilizer
* a constituent of folic acid * helps to utilize pantothenic acid
* antioxidant which protects against sunburn when applied topically
* protects red blood cells
PABA, when used in sunscreens, may cause adverse skin reactions in persons
allergic to PABA and its esters. If a person is allergic to the 'caine' group of
anesthetics (lidocaine, benzocaine, etc.) or to sulfonamides, they may be
allergic to PABA.
Water-soluble PABA "is considered unique in that it is a 'vitamin within a
vitamin,' occurring in combination with folic acid.
